Intelligent Line Module

Intelligent Line Module

Forum Communications’ Intelligent Peripherals were developed to bring additional functionality to enhance the Alert and Consortium product lines. These peripherals were initially designed to support the Alert Emergency Notification System and now have been extended to support the ConsortAlert Emergency Notification System as well.

Forum Communications’ Intelligent Line Module (ILM) serves as an intelligent and flexible line end point in an Alert III or ConsortAlert system. The ILM provides numerous functional capabilities resulting in a device that can interface and activate many different peripheral devices. The traditional Crash Notification system was originally designed to provide a communications link between the tower and the fire stations. Over time, enhancements have been made and the airport community has focused more on reducing emergency response times. Consequently, the design enhancements for the ILM have focused on being able to interface and activate physical actions that lowers the response time and improves communication for first responders. Some of the physical actions that the ILM can activate after being triggered by the Emergency Notification system are;

  • Open ARFF station bay doors
  • Turn off gas/power to ARFF kitchen
  • Set off alarms, horns, or sirens
  • Activate strobe lights
  • Turn on ARFF station lights
  • Connect initiator/audio announcement to PA system or speaker

For triggering the bay doors and other electro-mechanical devices, the Forum ILM provides a dry contact triggering of the control relays that are supplied by the airport. It also has other advanced features such as indicating the location of the incident on the runway and the alert category on a display panel to the fire station personnel and connecting the crash conference to the first responders radio network at the scene of the incident. The diagram below shows the physical actions that an ILM is capable of triggering.

The activation of these physical actions was originally developed for the aviation industry and the  airport crash systems but these same physical actions are needed to be triggered in emergency  situations in other industries as well, such as, manufacturing plants, warehouses, seaports and  numerous others.
