Deploying emergency crash notification systems at commercial and military airports/airfields usually  involves integrating into an existing PA system. These systems tend to be old with poor voice quality,  have no available inputs or are unable to reserve the highest priority input for the crash system. The PA  speakers are also not always in the desired location. In addition, a workaround frequently needs to be  developed with some reconfiguration work required on the existing PA system. In response to the above  issues and customer requests, Forum has developed independent speaker units that connect directly to  the Emergency Notification system through telephone ports.

Forum has developed a 1 watt desktop speaker with adjustable volume for those individuals who need  to know of the incident but not need to actually participate in the call. Forum has also developed another larger speaker model, a 25 watt, 107 dB unit for large rooms and the AARF Fire  Station Bays or Fire Station building exterior.

Forum has developed a 1 watt desktop speaker with adjustable volume for those individuals who need  to know of the incident but not need to actually participate in the call. Forum has also developed two  other speaker models, a 10 watt unit for large rooms and a 50 watt waterproof unit for the AARF Fire  Station Bays or Fire Station building exterior.

These Forum speaker units can be deployed as an integral part of the Incident Alert system or in a  standalone configuration. They provide clear, crisp audio and have the following features;

• An integrated LED that has a keep alive flashing light

• Volume control knob on back (desktop model)

• Ability to play different tones or recorded audio based on alert types

• Only requires a regular CAT 5 cable back to the ConsortAlert server

• Can be used instead of a PA system

• Customizable faceplate color for different emergency types

These PA speaker units can be used to broadcast conference audio as like regular PA systems but  without the restrictions of the existing PA system. When integrated with the ConsortAlert Emergency  Notification system, the PA speaker units can be used to provide the following optional functionality;

• At the ARFF station sleeping quarters, special Heart Healthy tones can be played over the PA  speakers prior to connecting the Airfield Crash Conference audio

• A tone can be played over the PA speakers prior to opening the overhead bay doors of the ARFF  Fire Station

• Different tones can be played over the PA speakers prior to voice for different types of alerts  such as medical or security

• A tone can be played over the PA speakers prior to connecting audio from the conference to the  PA in order to warn personnel of an emergency call

• Different conference bridges can also be setup to include a subset of the PA speakers depending  on the type of alert such as weather or company announcements

The diagram below shows a deployment scenario for the three PA speaker units. The desktop PA  speakers are installed in the Airport Communication room on the desks of those individuals that need to  be aware of a Crash incident, a 10W PA speaker is installed in the Airport Operations room to alert all  operations personnel of a crash incident and a 50W PA speaker is installed in the ARFF station for the  first responders.
